CAFÉ SOLEIL - A EUROPEAN HOLIDAY

“A few months ago, I had the idea of modelling our next collection after a Café in the Sun.. a place that only serves Aperol and Affogatos…”

A welcome change of pace.. the weeks have flown by lately, so we took a moment to slow things down and bask in the European sunshine. A week with not a care in the world other than where to find the next Aperol. We were greeted in Spain by a heat wave. The air was 40°C and the pavement 50. Doing anything more than a hundred yards from a body of water was suicide. As somebody who generally wants to do the most, the heat forced me to slow things down and enjoy our new surroundings. The streets were cobbled, buildings washed a stark white, and terra cotta roofs were visible as far as the eye could see. It was pristine. We were situated near the small town of Estepona, a stones throw away from the strait of Gibraltar.

A few months ago, I had the idea of modelling our next collection after a Café in the Sun.. a place that only serves Aperol and Affogatos. After mulling over the idea for a while, we decided to bring it to life and take our new collection on a trip across the pond to the south coast of Spain, where one day, I imagine, a place like that might just exist.

We managed to find a cheap sailboat charter one evening. Luckily, our guide was the only one daring enough to put up his sails through 20 knots of wind. We cruised through the Mediterranean with views of Gibraltar and Morocco in the distance. We exchanged exaggerated stories of times at sea, and sailing back home in BC. Through double-reefs, we cruised upwind around 6 knots. The air was warm and the breeze steady, hot and humid coming from the northwest.
